The petition of Emanuell Dire of Broad Clyst, Devon, undated

The humble Peticion of Emanuell Dire [or Dine] of the parish of Broadclist.

That your Peticioner hath been a faithfull souldjer to his late Ma[jes]tie King Charles the first under the comand of Collonell S[i]r Henry Cary and his Captaine Drake of Topsham, with whom he hath been in severall fights. And being in Dartmouth and then taken prisoner when it was taken, by which he suffered great hardship. And being now grown ancient in yeares and not able to maintaine himselfe, doth most humbly desire y[ou]r Hon[ou]r that he may have some of his Mai[est]ies pay allowed for Maimed Souldjers, which if yo[u]r Hon[ou]r please to grant him, He shall, as in duty bound Ever pray
