The petition of Emanuell Butler of Taunton, Somerset, 12 July 1653

To the right Wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of peece now assembled in Sessions att the Castle of Taunton for the Countie of Somm[er]s[e]t:
The Humble peticion of Emanuell Butler of Taunton Cordwinder.
Sheweth that your pet[itioner] during the seuerall seiges of Taunton was a Faithfull souldier in the States seruice under the Commaund of Captain Thomas Trobbridge in the regiment of Col[one]l Robert Blake in which seruice he rec[eive]d a shott from the enemy through the bodie and stood in great hazard of his life by the meanes he is in a great Measure disenabled to gett maintainance for himselfe and his wife and Child and he hath lost three sonnes in the states seruice
And doth therfore humbly pray that your Worshipps would vouchsafe to order that something may be conferd on your pet[itione]r for the reliefe of his pr[e]sent and future wants and necessities as in your graue wisdome shal be thought fitt
And yo[u]r pet[itione]r shall euer pray &c.
