The petition of Ellen Sonkye, Lancashire, Michaelmas 1654

To the Right Wor[shi]pp[ful] Justices of the peace at the Quarter sessions at Lancaster
The humble Petic[i]on of Ellen Sonkye widowe and her fowre Children, and the rest of the widowes and Maymed Souldiors
Sheweth
That yo[u]r petic[i]o[ne]rs husbands lost their lives in the States seruice and had order for the receivinge of pay for releife of their Children, w[hi]ch pay is necklected and yo[u]r petic[i]o[ne]rs hath received none this fowre yeares but one Twel[ve]munths paie So yt for want of their pay they and their Children is at want both for Clothes and victualls
May it theirfore please yo[u]r wor[shi]pps for to take the p[re]mises into yo[u]r graue Considerac[i]ons and to helpe yo[u]r petic[i]o[ne]rs w[i]th reliefe accordinge to Judge Windham reference and an order made at the sherifes Table the last assisses and yo[u]r poore petic[i]o[ne]rs will in dutye bound euer pray.
recomended to Ch[urchwardens] & Ou[erseers] to p[ro]vide for such as are impotent & hath smale & [sic.]
