The petition of Ellen Lownes of Stapeley, Cheshire, Trinity 1652

To the Right Wor[shipful] the Justices of the peace and others the worsh[ipful] Gent[lemen] at this present Sessions, The humble pet[ition] of Ellen Lownes late of Stapley widow
Humbly sheweth yt yo[u]r pet[itioner] (being a very poore widow) had her sonne Robert Lownes pressed or Comman[d]ed forth for the saide Towneshipe of Stapley to the late Seruice at Worcester where he (in ye said seruice) receiued a Shott in the Thighe of which hee lay vpon your poore pet[itioner’s] Charge for aboue a quarter of a yeare vnder the Cure of D[oc]t[o]r William Wolley, yo[u]r pet[itioner’s] saide sonne formerly pet[itioned] for releife as others in ye same Condition did and some weare then releiued, but his pet[ition] retarded: and her sonne being in very meane estate most humbly prayeth
Your worsh[ips] will be pleased to take the premisses into yo[u]r serious Consideration and to grant vnto your poore pet[itioner] such releife as the State alloweth in such Cases both for her Charges, and her saide sonnes dammage by the shott, beseeching yo[u]r worsh[ips] (without offence to you) to remember the Condition of the Fatherlesse and widdow, & the promise made to them when they Call and may not be heard: And yo[u]r pet[itioner] as in duty bound will euer pray &c
Wee whose names are subscribed most humbly pray (knowing the Contents of the petition to be true) yt your worsh[ips] will please to afford vnto the pet[itioner] what lawfull fauor you may remaineinge, yo[u]r worships most humble seruants
