The petition of Ellen Hancock of Middlewich, Cheshire, Epiphany 1651

To the right hon[oura]ble the deputy lieftenants & other the keepers of the peace their assistants assembled at Middlewich for the holding of the Quarter Sessions for this Countye.
The petic[i]on of Ellen Hancock of Middlewich within this Countye infant.
Sheweth to yo[u]r honors that yo[u]r petic[ioner] being daughter vnto one James Hancock of Middlewich who was for a long tyme trayned soldyer vnder Collenell Croxton in the p[ar]liament seruice and was slayne at the siege ag[ains]t Chester And yo[u]r pet[itioner] formerly mooveing yo[u]r honors for releefe yo[u]r honors about 3 yeares since ordered that yo[u]r pet[itioner] should have such releefe as was afforded to such fatherles infants in the like kind yet neu[e]rtheles yo[u]r pet[itioner] neuer rec[eived] any more but one twentye shillings nor is likely ever to receive any more vnles yo[u]r honors favors bee shewed to yo[u]r petic[ioner] herein.
May it therefore please yo[u]r hono[u]rs to order that yo[u]r petic[ioner] may haue some releefe for the tyme to come And such allowance for the tyme past as to yo[u]r honors shall seeme meete & convenient And yo[u]r pet[itioner] as in duty bound shall pray for yo[u]r hono[u]rs health & happy estate in this life & eternall happines in the life to come.
