The petition of Ellen Browne of ?Fawsley, Northamptonshire, Easter 1668

The humble petic[i]on of Ellen Browne widdowe an Inhabitant in Favesely.
Humbly sheweth
That yo[u]r poore petic[i]oners late deceased husband was in his life time in his Ma[jes]ties service under the command of Major Legg at whose decease he left three small children and yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r in an Indigent and a distressed condic[i]on altogether incapable to maintaine that charges having nothing but her own labour Now may it please yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps yo[u]r petic[i]oner had formerly a penc[i]on, but being since taken away shee is in soe miserable and deplorable a condic[i]on that shee and her poore children are very likelly to be utterly ruinated.
Her humble petic[i]on therefore is that yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps would be pleased to take her sad condic[i]on into yo[u]r pious and charitable considerac[i]ons and to be pleased to regrant unto her the penc[i]on she formerly enjoyed.
And yo[u]r pet[itione]r shall ever pray &c.
