The petition of Ellen Broughill of Halton, Cheshire, Trinity 1652

To the right wor[shi]ppful the Justices of peace assembled at Nantwitch [illegible] for the holding of the Quarter sessions for this Countye
The petic[i]on of Ellen Broughill of Hoolton within the Countye aforesayd widowe.
Sheweth to yo[u]r wor[shi]pps that yo[u]r petic[ioner’s] husband hauing ever beene a firme man for the p[ar]liam[en]t since the beginning of these [illegible] late warres in this Nation & beene severall tymes in prison yo[u]r peit[ioner] being now impleaded for forty shillings which yo[u]r petic[ioner’s] husband (as is [?layde] ag[ains]t her) borrowed to release himselfe out of prison yo[u]r petic[ioner’s] husband going into Scotland in the company of Capt[ain] Richard Heath in the Regim[en]t of Col[one]l Daniel there by reason of [illegible] the hardship hee there endured dyed of a vyolent Flux & feavo[u]r leaving yo[u]r pet[itioner] & a small infant & nothing to releeue them soe that yo[u]r pet[itioner] and her small infant are likely to perish for lack of releefe vnles yo[u]r wor[shi]pps favo[u]r bee shewed to yo[u]r pet[itioner] herein
May it therefore please yo[u]r wor[shi]pps to order that yo[u]r petic[ioner] may haue the like allowance that is alloted to poore widowes in the like kind & yo[u]r petic[ioner] as in duty bound shall pray &c.
The Certificate of Col[one]l Daniel hereunto annexed testifyes the truth of yo[u[r petic[ioner’s] late husbands carryage & death.
