The petition of Ellen Baxter of Ollerton, Cheshire, Michaelmas 1645

To the wor[shipfu]ll Justeces at the quarter sessions.
The humble petition of Ellen Baxter of Ollerton widdow,
humbly sheweth that you[r] poore pet[it]io[ne]rs husband beinge a souldier for the Towneshipp of Ollerton was slaine in Wales & shee beeinge very destitute haueinge 2 poore Children & noe meanes to Maintaine her selfe & her Children with But what shee taketh greate paines & laboureth for & the Inhabitants of the said Towne taxed yo[u]r poore peti[ti]ion[e]r to paye Layes w[i]thin [illegible] theire Towneshippe to her great preiudice.
Humbly prayeth yo[u]r wor[shi]pps to Comisserate her distre[sse]d Estate that yow would bee pleased to graunte such order that yo[u]r poore pet[it]io[ner] maie bee freed from payeinge of any Layes & taxes w[i]thin the said Towneshipp & shee will euer pray.
