The petition of Ellen and Margarett Baxter of Ollerton, Cheshire, 8 July 1656

To the Right wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of Peace for this Countie of Chester assembled at theire quarter Cesseons at the Nantwich the Eight day of July 1656
The humble petic[i]on of Ellen Baxter and Margarett Baxter Infants daughters of James Baxter late of Oullerton labourer deceassed
Sheweth that the said James Baxter was a souldier for the late Parliam[en]t vnder the Command of Colonell John Leigh Esquire And was drowned in the said s[er]vice at Yet After his decease theire was a pention of Twentie shillings a yeare allowed to his said wife for mainten[an]ce of her selfe And yo[u]r petic[i]oners; That about Fower yeares yeares and a halfe since yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s said mother dyed alsoe that since her death one Roger Cadman hath yearely Receved the said Penc[i]on of xx s. p[er] Ann[um] And [illegible] haue Repared a smale peece of Buyldinge formerly belonging to yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s [?said] For ther and mother in theire life tyme; but hath done nothinge there in nor for the Releeffe of yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s or eyther of them but yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s haue lyen In a Shippen And live vpon the Charitie of well disposed people w[hi]ch yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s Cannot longer be suffered to doe; but are like to fall in to Greate Missery being both destitute both of meate drinke Lodging and App[ar]ell there beinge but Eight yeares of Age
The premisses tenderly Considered my [sic.] yt please this ho[noura]ble bench soe to order that the said Roger Cadman may pay the mony by him soe Receaved as a foresaid; to yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s or theire vse for the Repareinge of the said smale bay of buyldings And Releeffe of yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s; And that here after the said penc[i]on may bee heareby paid to yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s according to the true Intent and meaning of the Grant theireof And yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s shall ever pray
