The petition of Elizebeth Chamlett of Lancaster, Lancashire, Easter 1671

To the Right Wor[shi]pp[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ty[s] Justices of ye peace & Quoru[m] at ye genn[e]rall q[ua]rter Sessions at Lanc[aste]r

The Humble petic[i]on of Elizebeth Chamlett of Lanc[aste]r a poore & indigent widdowe.

Most Humbly sheweth yt her husband Peter Chamlett was a soldier in ye Regim[en]t of S[i]r John Girlington & vnder ye Com[m]and of Capt[ai]n Will[ia]m Foxcrofte in the service of his Ma[jes]t[y]s late Father of euer blessed memorie & in ye service of his Ma[jes]tie yt Now is wherein hee suffered manie hardshipps & was vtterlie therein impouerished & dyed aboute seaven yeares since in this Towne of Lanc[aste]r & lefte yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r & a poore Chyld vnborne w[hi]ch is not as yett sixe yeares ould & very weake & infirme & yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r haueinge noe estate at all to mentayne or subsist her selfe w[i]thall & her poore infant w[i]thall but by spinninge of Neighbors hempe or Flaxe w[hi]ch will not amount to aboue vi d. a weeke in ye most For & towards her owne & her younge Chyldes mentayneance.

In tender Considerac[i]on whereof Maie it please yo[u]r good wor[shi]pps to take the pr[e]misses into yo[u]r Considerac[i]on & grant yo[u]r order to ye Churchwardens & Overseers of ye poore w[i]thin ye p[ar]ishe of Lancaster For yo[u]r petic[i]oners poore infant & orphan to ye deceased Peter Chamlett a loyall subiecte to his Ma[jes]ties late Father & his Ma[jes]tie yt now is For some weekely pension as yow in yo[u]r discreet Judgem[en]ts shall conceiue most Fittinge For such an obiect of pittie & compassion, And yo[u]r petic[i]oner as in dutie bounde will euer praye &c
