The petition of Elizabeth Wilkinson of Tiverton, Cheshire, Trinity 1662

To the Ho[noura]ble the Justices of the Peace in the County of Chester
The humble Petic[i]on of Elizabeth Wilkinson of Tiverton
<Sheweth>
That yo[u]r poore pet[itioner’s] husband Roger Wilkinson of Tiverton afores[ai]d in the yeare of o[u]r Lord god 1643 was inlisted a private sould[i]er in the Troope of Richard Walthall Esq[ui]r[e] Captaine in the Regim[en]t of Colonel John Marrow in the service of his Ma[jes]ties father that now is of euer blessed and glorious memory in w[hi]ch service hee was faithfull and Loyall accordinge to his imploym[en]t and being com[m]anded vpon a party to goe towardes Naptw[i]ch was by the enemy shot, who left this poore pet[itioner] w[i]th two small Children being destitute of any thing to menteyne them saue onely gods providence and her owne Industry and now growing into yeares and not soe able to worke for her and theire releife and menteinance as formerly and alsoe beinge informed that his Royall Ma[jes]tie hath by Act of parliam[en]t allowed releife to the widdowes and Orphanes of such faithfull souldiers as were slaine in the service of his father
Therefore yo[u]r poore pet[itioner] humbly prayes that yo[u]r hon[ou]rs will be pleased to take her sad condic[i]on into yo[u]r serious considerac[i]on & to allow such an yearely penc[i]on towardes her releife and menteinance in her old age as yo[u]r hon[ou]rs shall thinke fit
And as in duty bound she will euer pray for yo[u]r hon[ou]rs happinesse
<Wee who [sic.] names are subscribed knowing this petic[i]on to bee true desire the pet[itioner] may bee releife accordinge to act of Parlyam[en]t and subscribe o[u]r selues>
