The petition of Elizabeth Rowlinson, Cheshire, Michaelmas 1651

To the hon[oura]ble Henrie Brooke William Marburie e[s]q[ire]s and the rest of the wor[shipfu]ll Justic[e]s houldinge the ssesions [sic.] at Northw[i]ch w[i]thin the County of Chester.
The petic[i]on of Elizabeth Rowlinson widow
Sheweth that yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s husband formerly lived by his trade a web{s}ter and was helpful to others in releife and not pr[e]iudicall to others till the tymes of differenc[e]s in England (by warrs raysed) That yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r ever and at begininge tooke vpp Armes left wife & Children & exposed himselfe to gods mercy for the defeateinge the enimy And in the p[ar]liam[en]ts p[ar]ty That some tymes in Lancashire vnder Comand & some tymes in Cheshire he shewed him selfe a souldier and was ever willinge vnder the states Comand to venture his life in w[hi]ch Condic[i]on last of all yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s husband did end his life Scotland [sic.] vnder Captaine Ald[e]rsey vnder Comand of Col[one]l Danyell yo[u]r petic[i]oner neu[e]r receaueinge any pay (as a sould[ie]rs due) to her vtter ruine haueinge fower small Children and nothinge to maintayne either her selfe or little ones on.
May itt please yo[u]r hon[ou]rs to take the pr[e]misses into grave considerac[i]ons and to graunte yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]rs such [illegible] releife as others (poore widdowes & fatherlesse Children in such Case may or haue had by yo[u]r order els yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r w[i]th her fower Children may p[er]ish.
