The petition of Elizabeth Orrell of Prescot, Lancashire, Easter 1676

To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace & Quor[um] at the Quarter Sessions at Ormskirk
The humble Pet[iti]on of Elizabeth Orrell relict of John Orrell late of Prescott a maimed Souldier
Sheweth
That the said John Orrell haueing faithfully serued his Ma[jes]tie & his late Father of euer blessed memory in the late warres, had a pension of Twenty shillings conferred vpon him by yo[u]r worships & as a Foot post carryed Letters from Prescot to Ormskirk for seu[e]rall years, w[i]th all care & fidelity & by his great paines & endeauo[u]rs did maintaine yo[u]r Pet[itione]r & his Children but by a late loss of Cattell, his poore estate was much diminished, & he being now dead yo[u]r Pet[itione]r is in great danger to loose the benefit of carrying the Post Letters w[hi]ch was their maine stay of Liuelyhood & if depriued of the pension, she & her children are vtterly ruined
Yo[u]r Pet[itione]r therefore humbly prayeth yo[u]r worships tend[e]r considerac[i]on of her Lowe condic[i]on, & that you will Ord[e]r a Continueance of her said late husbands Pensions,
And yo[u]r Pet[itione]r as in duty bound will euer pray &c
