The petition of Elizabeth Farnsworth, Nottinghamshire, 27 August 1646

To the hon[oura]ble Comittee of Parliam[en]t for ye towne of Nottingham
The humble [petition] of Elizabeth Farnsworth widdow of Nottingham
Sheweth
Whereas yo[u]r petic[ione]rs husband Richard Farnsworth deceased were A troop[er] vnder Capt[ain] John Wright for a long space and had verie litle pay, and afterwards were w[i]th Captaine Selbie and beeing vpon service the last time the enemie were at ye trent bridges were shot into ye bodie that hee died, and left yo[u]r petic[ione]r [illegible] A verie poore woman & a sucking Child, soe that yo[u]r peti[tione]r liveth in great wants & miserie, and yo[u]r hon[ou]rs form[er]ly gaue order yo[u]r petic[ione]r should haue one months pay, and as yet shee neuer receaved but xx s. in all.
Wherefore yo[u]r petic[ione]r humbly praieth yo[u]r hono[u]rs to bee pleased to take her distressed Condic[i]on into yo[u]r graue Considerac[i]ons and to allow her some mentaneance in moneye or bricks towards her husbands pay for the releife of herselfe & young Child in these hard times, and shee shall dayly pray for yo[u]r much encrease of hono[u]rs &c.

Mr Hough Pay twenty shillings to the Pet[i]t[ione]r, in p[ar]te of her paye and this shal be yo[u]r warrant Geuen vnd[e]r o[u]r hands the 27th of August 1646.
