The petition of Elin Heys of Lostock Gralam, Cheshire, Easter 1655

To the right wor[shi]p[fu]ll the Justices of the peace att this present Sessions assembled.
The humble Petic[i]on of Ellin Heyes late wife to Philipe Heyes of Lostocke Gralam most humbly Sheweth vnto your worship[s]
That you[r] poore peti[ti]on[er] her husband in the warre was a constant and Faithfull Soldier therein and Continued in the said seruise vntill the late and last Fight att Worster From whence returning he Fell into a grevous dessase and Sicknesse and neue[r] recourered itt while hee had any thinge of his owne hee mad vse of itt neither troubling his Frends nor burthening the neighbourhood and knowing him to haue beene borne of honest Parents and eu[er] Carr[y]ing himselfe honestly Painfully and respecti[ve]ly amongst them and wee humbly intreat yow to Continue the same to the widdow and the two pore Fatherlesse Children towardes bringe[ing] of them vp.
May it therefore please your worship[s] to take you[r] poore peti[t]ion[er]s sad Condit[i]on into you[r] wors[hipfu]ll Consideration and to grant her sum reliffe who is otherwise like to Starue as in you[r] great wisdomes shall be thought most mite [sic.] and Conuen[ie]nt and you[r] poore peti[ti]on[e]r shall eu[er] pray &c
