The petition of Elias Thomas of Ottery St Mary, Devon, 1671

To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace for the County of Devon &c.
The humble petic[i]on of Elias Thomas of Ottery St Mary
Sheweth unto yo[u]r good wor[ship]s That your petic[i]on[e]r in the Late Warre in our Realme of England was a Corporall of a Troope of Horse under the Command of The Lord Barckley [?deb[uty]] Gouernour of Ireland for his Late Ma[jes]ties Seruice did not only suffer and endure many hardshipps and imprisonments but Rec[eive]d many great hurts by which he is utterly disabled and not able to subsist by reason of his decrepped Condic[i]on.
The Tender Consid[er]ac[i]on whereof your petic[i]oner humbly Desireth your Wor[ship]s Fauour herein and to afford vnto him such Releife as you shall thinke most fitt for his pr[e]sent occasions and Condic[i]on if you please to make and [sic.] addicc[i]on unto his pr[e]sent pention and your petic[i]on[e]r shall eu[e]r pray &c.
Wee whose names are subscribed doe Testify of yo[u]r Petic[i]oners Civill Life and conuersac[i]on Therefore in his behalfe desire your wor[ship]s Fauour towards him.
