The petition of Edward Whittwell of Arksey, West Riding of Yorkshire, 18 July 1681

To the Right Hono[ura]ble his Ma[jes]ties Justices of Peace att Pontefract.
The Humble Petic[i]on of Edward Whittwell of Arksey in the County of Yorke Clerke.
<Humbly sheweth>
That Grace Portington widd[ow] Relict of Robert Portington Gentl[eman] A Collonell in his late Ma[jes]ties Kinge Charles the First of ever blessed memory his Army haveinge for some tyme the sum[m]e of twenty pounds p[er] Annu[m] allowed her forth of the Lame souldiers money.
That for twelve Moneths last past the same hath not beene paid to her soe that the said mrs Portington Fell into Great want & necessity & your Petic[i]oner Comiserateinge her Condic[i]on did for about twelve Moneths before her death maintaine her
That att the Last Gen[er]all Quarter sessions holden at Pontefract for this Rideinge the Court then thought Fitt that the said allowance of twenty pounds p[er] Annu[m] should be continued to her but the same was never paid
The premisses Considered your Peticoner prayes that notwithstandinge the death of the said mrs Portington he may have the Arreares of her said allowance towards the Charges hee was att in maintaininge and buryinge the said mrs Portington.
