The petition of Edward Westcott of Milton Abbot, Devon, 1682

To the right wor[shi]p[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace for the Countye of Devon.
The humble petic[i]on of Edward Westcott of Mylton Abbott in the sayd Countye
Sheweth that yo[u]r peticon[e]r was a Souldier in the service of his late Ma[jes]tye in the warrs vnder the Commaund of Major Trevisa in the hon[ou]r[a]ble the Lord Mohuns Regim[en]t of Foote, and faythfully served his sayd Ma[jes]tie in the said warrs and continued in that service vntill the Castle of Pendennis was surrendred in which sayd Garrison, and before yo[u]r peticon[e]r received severall wounds and hurts from the enemye, thereby disinablinge him (beinge a labourer & husbandman) nowe to gett his liveinge by his worke; and beinge nowe growen aged feeble and poore doth humbly beseech yo[u]r wor[shi]pps to take his sad condic[i]on into yo[u]r serious Considerac[i]on and to afford him some reasonable allowance towards his maynetenance in his old age
And y[ou]r peticon[e]r shall dayely praye &c
I knowe the peticon[e]r beinge my neighbour, to bee a poore, honest, & loyall p[er]son and doe beleive the matters conteyned in his petic[i]on to bee true
