The petition of Edward Ware of Oakford, Devon, 7 October 1663

To the Honor[a]ble his Ma[jes]ties deputy Leiu[tenan]ts Justices of the Peace assembled at Sessions for the County of Devon
The Petic[i]on of Edward Ware of Okeford in the County aforesaid
Most Humbly Sheweth:
That whereas yo[u]r Pet[itione]r was a soldier in the service of his late Ma[jes]tie of ever blessed Memory ag[ain]st those rebells that raised an vniust war ag[ain]st him within the Company of Collonell Gifford of Brightley & Allso was a Corporall in Collonell Ames Pollards Regiment vnder Lievtenant Collo[ne]ll Sydenham, & received severall wounds whereby he is disabled from gettinge his liuelihoode & is like much to suffer vnles yo[u]r honor[a]ble Mercy extend towards him in this his extremyty. The trueth of w[hi]ch yo[u]r Petico[ne]r hath declared is & can be evidenced by those p[er]sons whose names are subscribed.
In tender Comiserac[i]on of the pr[e]mises & for that yo[u]r Petic[ione]r hath a charge of nine children not one of them able to gett his owne Maintainance Most humbly Prayeth yo[u]r Hono[u]rs out of yo[u]r wanted clemency to be gratiously pleased to grant yo[u]r Petitio[ner] a continuall penc[i]on towards his future liuelihood & Maintainance.
And yo[u]r petion[e]r shall ever pray &c.
