The petition of Edward Vaughan of Barford St Martin, Wiltshire, Easter 1662

To the right wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the Peace at the Quarter Sessions for the County of Wiltes[hire], held at the Devizes.

The humble Petic[i]on of Edward Vaughan of Barford St Martin in the said County of Wilts[hire] most humbly Sheweth.

That yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r serued King Charles the first, of blessed memory in his warrs against his twoe howses of Parliament and att the Battell of Naseby in his said Ma[jes]ties service was vnfortuneatly wounded and taken prisoner, by reason of which wound he is much impoverished, as not being able to gett his living by bodily labour, which is the only thing he hath to trust vnto for his maintainance, And sith it hath pleased almightie God of his greate mercy to restore his sacred Ma[jes]tie King Charles the second to his Throne and Dignity to the greate comfort of his people, soe that it is in his Ma[jes]ties power to relieve poore distressed people of whoe haue suffered in this nature &c. and yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r being very poore and haueing long time suffered by reason of his said wounds as being thereby much disinabled to gett his living and maintainance, humbly petic[i]oneth yo[u]r wor[shi]pps that you would be pleased to com[m]iserate his sad condic[i]on, and graunt him some comfort by bestoweing an annuall penc[i]on on him out of the County treasure collected for poore people in such a sad case.

And yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r shall (as in duty) allwayes pray &c
