The petition of Edward Sutton of Lathom, Lancashire, Michaelmas 1667

To the Right w[o]r[shi]pp[fu]ll the Justices of Peace & Quor[um] att the generall quarter sessions at Wiggan:
The humble petic[i]on of Edw[ard]: Sutton a maimed souldier
Sheweth
Vnto yo[u]r wor[shi]pps
That your petic[i]on[e]r is 80 yeares of age or thereabouts and was a souldier in Kinge Charles the first his wars vnder the Com[m]and of Major Rich[ar]d Bushopp and sometyme a Lieftenn[an]t to his owne companie & att his returne was plundred of goods to the value of 140 li. att Haughwood in Billinge and Mr Gollibrands in Billinge Lathom which impoverished him his wife and [illegible] Children, and your petic[i]oner obteyned a certificate vnd[e]r the hands of the Right honourable Charles Earle of Derby by intreating the s[ai]d Justices to commiserate his Condic[i]on and to releeve him w[i]th an annuall penc[i]on answerable to his Militarie service & sufferings but the Justices allotted him 30 s. a yeare with which sume yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r is not able to subsist.
May itt please therefore your good wor[shi]pps to allow him 10 s. a quarter dureinge his life in regard hee hath not any thing left to mainteyne him with and yo[u]r petic[i]oner as in duty bound will pray &c
