The petition of Edward Skillett of Canterbury (St Mildred’s Parish), City and County of Canterbury, 7 January 1675

To the right wor[shi]ppfull the maior and recorder and the rest of his ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace at the gen[eral] Q[uar]t[e]r sessions of the peace Assembled Janu[ary] 7th 1674:
The humble pettic[i]one of Edward Skillett of the same Cittie sarg weauer
Humbly Sheweth
Yo[u]r wor[shi]pps pettic[i]oner hath Euer been diligent in his calling to get a poor liuelyhood for himselfe and Family is now striken in yeares and disabled in his ma[jes]ties Seruice vnder Capt[ain] Rob[er]t Turner, had a penc[i]on allowed & paid him vntill about the yeare 1664: Mr Ald[erman] Ockman being maior hath not been sinc paid. And late may it pleas yo[u]r wor[shi]pps an adic[i]on to his sorrow is befalne him haueing a Child to keepe by one of his ma[jes]ties gaurd wherby he is not able to maintaine his poor family Humbly craues yo[u]r wor[shi]pps would be pleased to take into yo[u]r graue Considerac[i]on the deplorable Condic[i]on of yo[u]r wor[shi]pps petic[i]oner & family And speedily put him in a way to receiue the said penc[i]on his Just due and yo[u]r peticoner in all duty shall euer pray &c.
