The petition of Edward Moris of Llysan, Denbighshire, 14 March 1665

To the Hono[ura]ble Collonell John Robinson.
The humble petic[i]on of Edward Moris of the parish of Llanvihangel Llynmvir in the county of Denbigh laborer.
Humbly sheweth
That yo[u]r Petic[i]o[n]er hath served as a soldier in the Army of his late Ma[jes]ty of ever blessed memory and never deserted that service. That hee hath dureing fower yeares of the warrs served as Corporall in yo[u]r Regiment in the company of Capt[ai]n John Lloyd, and behaved himself honestly & faithfully and receaved divers great wounds in the said warre which now make him very unfitt to get his livelyhood by his labour as hee was vsed being a husbandman. And yo[u]r Pet[itione]r further sheweth that hee is a very poore man and hath a wife and six small children [illegible] and hath nothing to maintayne them, but what they haue by the benevolence of the neighbo[u]rs.
Yo[u]r Pet[itione]r humbly prayeth yo[u]r wor[shi]pps assistance that hee may haue some allowance towards the maintenance of him, his wife and Children out of the maymed soldiers mize or otherwise. And yo[u]r Pet[itione]r will ever pray &c.
The petitioner Ed[war]d Morris hauing benne a soldier vnder Capt[ain] Lloyd as is aboue specifyed may very well meritt a Pension and wh[ic]h I hope the Justices of the Peace at the next Quarter sessions will be pleased too to grant him, and soe doe offer him to their charitable consideration. Wee whose names are subscribed Inhabitants of the said parish as doe certify that to the best of o[u]r knowledge the Petico[i]ner is an honest poore man and hath a wife and six small children, and hath noe meanes to mayntayne them but are kept by the charity & benevolence of the neighbo[u]rs.
