The petition of Edward Millard of Barnstaple, Devon, Epiphany 1648

To the Right Wor[shi]pp[fu]ll the Justices of Peace for the Countie of Devon.
The humble Peticon of Edward Millard of Barnestaple in the foresaid Countie of Devon.
Humbly sheweth yo[u]r poore Petition[e]r at Madbury in the P[ar]lia[men]ts service under the Commaund of Capt[ain] Benson, was greivously Wounded & continueth maymed in both hands, And unable to gett anythinge towards his maintenance, who Received 4 s. 8 d. a weeke from the Countie Commission[er]s untill the unhappie defeat of the P[ar]liam[en]ts forces in Cornwall und[er] the Commaund of the Earle of Essex since w[hi]ch tyme yo[u]r poore Peticion[e]r received no supportance but hath consumed all that he was possest of and is in extreame povertie & like to perish for want the w[hi]ch yo[u]r Peticioner did make knowne unto the Committee when they sate last at Torrington who appointed yo[u]r Peticioner to Repaire unto the County Sessions for Releife.
Your Peticion[e]r doth humbly beseech yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps to take his Miserable Condicon into yo[u]r Charitable Consideracon that he may have reliefe in this his Misery, as yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps shall thinke fit, and yo[u]r peticion[e]r shall have great cause to pray for yo[u]r wor[shi]pps continuance in health w[i]th increase of happiness &c
