The petition of Edward Mawdsley of Lathom, Lancashire, Michaelmas 1667

To ye r[igh]t wor[shi]pp[fu]ll his Majest[y]s Justices of peace and Quor[um] for ye County of Lanc[aster] in their Generall Q[uarte]r Sessions of peace at Orm[skir]ke.
The humble Petic[i]on of Edward Mawdsley of Lathom sheweth
Sheweth.
That yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r had heretofore an Order granted him for a penc[i]on to bee allowed him as a Maimed indigent soldier who had faithfully served his Ma[jes]ty and his Royall father in ye late warrs, wherevpon hee had ye said penc[i]on paid him duly vntill this last yeare at ye Q[uarte]r sessions of peace held at Wiggan after Micha[elma]s last, That vpon ye informac[i]on & suggestion of some persone malitiously bent ag[ains]t yo[u]r peticio[ne]r who was not then there to make any defence ye said penc[i]on was suspended and hath not since beene paid him, though hee is reduced to great want & poverty and his fidelity in adhering to his Ma[jesty]s service sufficiently Atested by Certificates, w[hi]ch yo[u]r pet[itione]r hath not here to p[ro]duce but are at Wiggan as wil bee now made appeare [sic.] to yo[u]r wor[shi]pps.
May it therefore please yo[u]r good wor[shi]pps to consider yo[u]r pet[itione]rs pr[e]sent sad Condic[i]on and ord[e]r him the said penc[i]on to bee restored him and the arreres thereof to bee paid him: And hee as in duty bound shall ever pray &c
