The petition of Edward Knight of Brixham, Devon, Epiphany 1677

To the Right Ho[noura]bles S[i]r Thomas Carew Kn[igh]t and the rest of his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace at the Gener[a]ll Sessions held for the County of Devon.
The humble peticon of Edward Knight of the parish of Brixham Laborer.
<Sheweth>
That whereas yo[u]r pet[itione]r being a souldier in King Charles the firsts (of blessed memory) receiveing dangerous wounds and being aged, and decrepped, haveing a wife and family to maintaine [and] hath beene by yo[u]r Wo[rshi]pps nominated a Pensioner, and accordingly hath receiv’d the sume of Thirty shillings yearly by yo[u]r Wo[rshi]pps order, but your petitioner being aged, and haveing a family as aforesaid is not able to subsist by soe small a Pension, and unlesse yo[u]r Wo[rshi]pps favour be extended towards him, yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r and family are liken to suffer Indigency and want.
Your pet[itione]r therefore humbley prays that yo[u]r Wo[rshi]pps would be gratiously pleased in tender regard to the premises to add somewhat to his former pension, whereby himselfe and family may the better be able to subsist, as to yo[u]r Wo[rshi]pps shall seeme meet.
