The petition of Edward Greene of Little Gaddesden, Hertfordshire, 10 April 1694

To the Hon[oura]ble their Majesties Justices of the Peace Quoru[m] for the County of Hartford Assembled at the Generall Quarter Sessions for the said County.
The Humble Petition of Edward Greene of Little Gaddesden in the said County, an aged, Maimed Soldier
<Sheweth>
That yo[u]r said Petitioners Father being a Gentleman of antient family and Competent fortune suffered the losse of all for the late King Charles the first in the late Civill Warrs and that he yo[u]r Petitioner likewise was a soldjer for the said King throughout all the same in which service he received severall wounds which now in his old age, (wanting but one of Fowerscore yeares doth soe weaken and trouble hime, that hee is noe longer able to Labour for the Maintenance of himselfe, and his Wife, (who is also Threescore yeares old & upwards) as hee hath allwayes hitherto done without Complaint, notwithstanding his Maimes, Wounds and Bruises might have put him upon Petitioning much sooner But now hee Humbly Petitions this Hon[oura]ble Bench, that he may Receive the Benefitt of the Act of Parliam[ent] Provided for poore Maimed Soldiers, And bee Admitted to be a Poore Pentioner for this County.
And your Humble Petitioner shall as in Duty &c.
