The petition of Edward Field of Devizes, Wiltshire, Easter 1657
To the right Wo[rship]full the Justices of the Peace of the County of Wiltesh[ir]e nowe sitting att the Devizes
The humble Petic[i]on of Edward Field of the Devizes in the s[ai]d County Collermaker
Sheweth
That yo[u]r Pet[iti]o[ne]r was bound an App[re]ntice vnto yo[u]r Pet[iti]o[ne]rs father to be instructed in the said arte of Collermaker & served him faythfully therin vntill about seaven yeres since yo[u]r Petic[i]oner went as a souldier vnder Col[one]l Saxby into Scotland & there served the state about five yeres & nowe retorninge home vnto the Devizes to settle him selfe in his sayd callinge & hopinge to enioy the same according to the ordinance of his highnes in that behalfe made yo[u]r Petic[i]oner can not get a livinge by yt by reason that seu[er]all p[er]sons in the Devizes whoe haue other trades doe imploy themselves in yo[u]r Pet[iti]o[ne]rs callinge & yo[u]r Pet[iti]o[ne]r haue nowe Indicted George Howes Ambrose S[ain]tbury & Edith S[ain]tbury widdowe for the same contrary to the statute made such in the fifth yere of the late queene Ellizabeth
Wherefore yo[u]r Pet[iti]o[ne]r humbly desires that a warrant may be imediately issued out ag[ains]t them that soe they may be brought to a speedy tryall for the same & that yo[u]r Pet[iti]o[ne]rs ruine may be pr[e]vented herein
