The petition of Edward Edwards, Denbighshire, 15 July 1656

To the Right Worshipfull the Justices of Peace now at Denbigh sitting in q[uar]ter sessions held for the County of Denbigh
The humble petition of Edward Edwards
Sheweth
That your petitioner was in March 1643 listed in the Parliaments service as Drum-maior to the Regiment of the Hon[oura]bl[e] S[i]r Thomas Midleton knight then Maior Generall of North Wales: In which service and in execution of his Duty according to Com[m]and, your Petitioner was dangerouslie wounded by a musket shot from Denbigh Castle (then held by the enemie) whereby he is so maimed that he is noe ways able, as formerly, to maintaine hiselfe, wife & 3 small children, your petitioner being also out of military imployment since the disbanding of Col[onel] Thomas Masons Company at Carnarvon
May it therefore please your Worships, In com[m]iseration of your poore petitioner, to take the premisses into your consideration and in your Charity to admitt your petitioner to an allowance of a pension as a maimed soldier, whereby himselfe and poore family may be in some maner relieued and not forced to seeke theire bread from doore to doore lest the extremity of the law be vsed against them
And your petitioner shall pray &c

a penc[i]on of v m[ar]kes allowed him from henceforth & to be quarterly p[ai]d him by the tre[asure]rs till further order.
<order vpon the petic[i]on & certificate of Edward Edwards the petic[i]oner who hath many y[ea]res continued in the s[er]vice of the state as drwm maior to S[i]r Tho[mas Myddelton k[nigh]t when he was maior gen[er]all of northwalles & therein rec[eive]d a wound by a musket shott from Denbigh castle. It is ordered that he be admitted one of the maimed soldiers & five m[ar]kes penc[i]on allowed him yearely, to be p[ai]d him q[uar]terly by the tre[asure]r for the time being vntil further order>
