The petition of Edward Bennet of Burbage, Wiltshire, 8 October 1667

To the right hon[ou]r[a]ble and Right Wor[shi]p[fu]ll his Ma[jes]t[y’]s Justices of the Peace at the Generall Sessions holden at Marlebrough for the County of Wilts[hire] this 8th day of October 1667
The humble petic[i]on of Edward Bennet of Marlbro Burbage in the sayd County laborer

That yo[u]r pet[itione]r serued in a troope of Capt[ain] Henry Cocks in the Regiment of S[i]r Rob[er]t Howard Col[one]l and diserted not his Ma[jes]t[y’]s seruice vntill yo[u]r pet[itione]r was disbanded at Truro in Cornwall during w[hi]ch sayd seruice yo[u]r pet[itione]r rec[eive]d seuerall wounds but espetially one in the thyghes w[hi]ch hath disabled yo[u]r pet[itione]r to labor for a subsistance yo[u]r pet[itione]r haueing a wife and five smale Children and not where withall but his Corporall labor w[hi]ch by reason of yo[u]r pet[itione]rs wounds is not able to p[ro]uide for his family
May it therefore please this hono[u]r[a]ble bench to take the deplorable condic[i]on of yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r into yo[u]r graue considerac[i]ons And grant a Pencheon to yo[u]r distressed pet[itione]r his wife & family that they p[er]ish not
And yo[u]r pet[itione]r shall euer pray &c.
