The petition of Edward Aldritch of Leek, Staffordshire, 27 May 1652

To the right wor[shi]pp[fu]ll the Justices of ye peace sittinge att the Castle in Leeke
The humble petic[i]on of Edward Aldritch of Leeke &c.
Sheweth
That whereas yo[u]r abouesayd humble Supplicant petic[i]on[e]r hauinge beene a Soldier vnder {ye command of} Colonell E{dwar}d Ashenhurst and maymed in itt lying against Biddulph Hall, and n{e}ver looking after any yearly benefit soe longe as his Father lived beinge mayntayned by him; Now soe it is (may it please yo[u]r wor[shi]pps) That yo[u]r s[ai]d petic[i]on[e]r, hauinge Foure Brothers & Sisters and none of them able to gett their owne livinge and beinge vpon search att yo[u]r wor[shi]pps last sittinge att [?Corte] wich yo[u]r Consents approoved of to haue Two pounds allowed yearly Quarterly to be payd, and hauinge now received but – 10 s. – and the Treasurer denying paym[en]t but yo[u]r s[ai]d petic[i]on[e]r was not putt into his Liste Doe humbly request yo[u]r wor[shi]pps soe to order that yo[u]r s[ai]d humble petic[i]on[e]r may haue payd him which is behind for the p[ay]m[en]t since he was putt into the Liste; And yo[u]r s[ai]d petition[e]r as in duty bound shall pray for yo[u]r wor[shi]pps healthe &c.
