The petition of Edmund Singleton of Lancaster, Lancashire, Epiphany 1662

The humble peticion of Edmund Singleton of Lancaster Sheweth.

Yt whereas yo[u]r peticioner being formerly a souldier in Germony [sic.] vnd[e]r ye Comand of Colonell Morgan & Leiveten[an]t S[i]r Thomas Coneye & afterwards hee Returned into Ireland & There Did serve vnd[e]r S[i]r Thomas Charles Banishter & vnder his Comand hee lost his lymbs so yt he goes vpon Crutches, soe being a very pore man haueing a wife & foure small Children & nothing to releife them;

hee Desires you may bee pleased to Com[m]iserate his Distressed Estate & Condition & Grant an ord[e]r for him yo[u]r pore peticioner whereby he may haue some Releife for & towards ye mayntaineing of himselfe & his poore familly.

And This is further to Certifie yt Mrs Alice Wearing of this Towne Cann & will Testifie yt this yo[u]r petici[one]r Did neu[e]r beare armes but in his late Ma[jes]ties service
