The petition of Dorothy Newsham, Lancashire, Michaelmas 1662

To the right wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justic[e]s of the peace at this pr[e]sent gen[er]all sessions of the peace houlden at Lanc[aste]r
The humble Petic[i]on of Dorothy Newsham widow, the late wyfe of Will[ia]m Newsham deceased.
Sheweth that her said late husband Will[ia]m Newsham was a souldier in his late Ma[jes]ties service of blessed memory in the Regim[en]t of S[i]r Thomas Tyldesley deceased in seu[er]all places and was in that service taken prisoner and suffered Imprisonm[en]t in dyvers parts And till his death continued a Loyall subiect, And now yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r beinge left very poore and haueinge a great charge of children and nothinge but her hand labo[u]r to mantaine themselues w[i]thall and shee beinge aged.
She humbly prayeth yo[u]r wor[shi]pps to grant her some competent relieffe out of the Charge of the parishes, as the Statute in that case provydeth, And as in duty bound she shall pray &c.
