The petition of Dame Sarah Brett, unknown residence, September 1660
To the Kinges most Excelent Majestie
The humble petition of Dame Sarah Brett
Most humbly sheweth
That her late husband Andrew Sanders Esq[uire] the better to enable him to serue your Majesties Royall Father in his late vnhappy warrs, did Morgage or sell your petitioners Joynture with an intention and promise to settle that or some other estate of equall vallue as soone as possible hee could, but her said husband dyinge in his said Majesties seruice before any such settlement of her Joynture which was 400 li. p[er] ann[um] shee and her two daughters haueinge little to liue vppon had ineuitabily perished had it not beene for the Charitable releefe of some of her freinds, there beinge not anythinge paid to her or any of her said daughters for aboue twentie two yeares last past out of that 400 li. p[er] ann[um] pention giuen to them by your Royall father out of the ordinary of the ordinance offices besides which shee lost in Jewels and goods
And to make her sad Condition more miserable since your Majesties longe prayed for restauration, by your Grantinge the Cole Farme to others, 40 li. p[er] ann[um] granted to her thereout by her brother S[i]r Thomas Bludder duringe her life is cutt off and shee depriued of that likewise soe that now shee hath not aboue 50 li. p[er] ann[um] left to mantance her & to pay that debts shee hath contracted by all which shee is reduced to such misery and distresse that without your Majesties princly Compassion shee is in hazard to perish either out or in prison
Shee most humbly therefore prayes
That your Majestie in tender Consideration of the premisses would bee gratiously pleased to allow her but 60 li. p[er] ann[um] pention during her life and towards the payment of her debts to bestow on her the makeinge of a Barronett
And shee shall euer pray
