The petition of Dame Barbara Villiers, residence unknown, August 1660

To the Kings most excellent Maiesty
The most humble petic[i]on of Dame Barbara Villiers widd[ow] yo[u]r Ma[jes]ties loyall and faithfull subiecte.
Sheweth
That it pleased your Ma[jes]ties royall Father of blessed memory by letters pat[en]ts in the 2d yeare of his raigne in considerac[i]on of long and faithfull service done vnto him and to yo[u]r Ma[jes]ties royall Grandfather by S[i]r Edward Villiers Kn[igh]t President of Munster your pet[itione]rs husband dec[eas]ed to grante to yo[u]r pet[itione]r 2 d. out of every pound waight troy of silver money coyned in the Mynte from Mich[aelm]as then last paste for 21 yeares, of w[hi]ch pat[en]t yo[u]r pet[itione]r rec[eiv]ed the benefitt for some yeares, but being deprived of the farther benefitt thereof by the late troubles it pleased his sacred Ma[jes]tie in considerac[i]on thereof and your pet[itione]rs greate sufferings for her loyalty, and of the services then done his Ma[jes]tie by yo[u]r pet[itione]rs Sonns, the eldest of whome dyed therein, by other Letters Pat[en]ts datted the 19th yeare of his raigne to grante vnto yo[u]r pet[itione]r the said twopences for 17 yeares after the end of the former terme whereof were 4 yeares then to come but by reason of the greate troubles, and of the ingagem[en]t of the pet[itione]r and her family in his Ma[jes]ties service, your pet[itione]r never since rec[eiv]ed one farthing benefitt of either of the said grants, but hath for her loyalty bene vtterly ruined, and stripte of her estate, and necessitated into greate debts.
May it please your sacred Ma[jest]ie gratiously to reflecte on the p[re]misses and to grante yo[u]r pet[itione]r the said twopences for 21 yeares, as was formerly intended her by yo[u]r Ma[jest]ies said royall Father, there being aboute 4 yeares yett to come thereof in the former Pat[en]t which your pet[itione]r will surrender
