The petition of Christopher Wilson of Reedness, West Riding of Yorkshire, 28 April 1674

To the Right hon[oura]ble his Ma[jes]tys Justices of the peace within the West ridd[ing] of yorkshire at their gen[er]all sess[ion]s at Pontefract 28 April [16]74.
The humble pettic[i]on of Chr[istoph]er Wilson within the towne of Reednesse within the Wappentake of Osgoldcrosse.
Humbly sheweth
That yo[u]r poore pettic[i]oner was a souldier for the late king under the Command of Capt[ain] Richard West, eldest Captaine in Collonell Blaggs Regiment and did s[e]rve the king as a souldier from the time the king set vp his standart at Notingham vntill Oxford and Wallinfford was yielded and in the said s[e]rvice was sev[er]all times wounded and lost one eye at the relieveing of Reading, soe that yo[u]r poore pettic[i]on[e]r is much disabled in his bodye and growne into great want and povertye.
The pr[e]miss[e]s Considered yo[u]r pettic[i]o[ne]r humbly beggs that yo[u]r hon[ou]rs would bee pleased to p[er]mitt him a penc[i]on[e]r in the place of Will[ia]m Hollings late of Cowicke who is latly dead and received a penc[i]on, and if the said place be disposed of hee humbly beggs hee may haue the first that falls and hee will dayly pray.
I doe beleive this pettic[i]on[er] to bee true and doe recomend him to the Justices of pece Wittnesse my hand Jo[hn] Yarburgh
