The petition of Christopher Mathew, Henry Browne and Humphry Tillard, all of Ottery St Mary, Devon, October 1660

To the Right Wor[shipful]s his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace for the county of Deuon.
The humble petic[i]on of Christopher Mathew Henry Browne and Humphry Tillard of Otery St Mary
Humbly sheweth vnto your good wor[ship]s That whereas great distracc[i]ons and devisions have benn heretofore moved within our Realme of England to the disturbance of the peace and Tranqullity of his late Ma[jes]tie and his Subiects And your peticioners beinge vnder the Com[m]and of Collenell S[i]r Richard Cholmeley knight, and indevoringe to the vtmost of their power for the preservac[i]on thereof, beinge for his Ma[jes]ties service att seu[er]all Ceeges both in devon and Som[er]sett have Received great hurtes to the dismembringe of each of them, and to the great hinderance and impoverishinge of their estates and families, beinge all trades men & hardly able to subsest by reason of their sadd condic[i]on
The considerac[i]on whereof, And for that your peticioners have been heretofore Afforded some releife towardes their mayntenance (beinge maymed souldiers) and now, for a longe tyme, detayned from them, doe humbly desire your good Wor[ship]s ord[e]r and assistance herein for and towardes their pr[e]sent necessities.
