The petition of Christopher Fawne, City and County of Canterbury, 17 February 1652

To the right wor[shipfu]ll the Maior of the Cittie of Canterbury and the Alldermen his Bretheren w[i]th the Common Counsell at this pr[e]sent Burghmoth assembled.
The humble petic[i]on of Christopher Fawne
In most humble manner sheweth That yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps poore petic[i]oner the last summer was prest a souldier into Ireland in the States service where he gott the buddy [sic.] Flux w[hi]ch doth now so much afflict him that he is in so poore and weake a Condic[i]on that if he have not some pr[e]sent sustenance he is like to perishe for want of succour He doth therfore humbly intreate that yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps wil be pleased (the pr[e]misses considered) so farre to commiserate his so sad and deplored condic[i]on as to bestow vpon him yo[u]r charitable beneuolence towards his pr[e]sent and future reliefe vntill it shall please God so farre to enable him to followe that course of liveing which formerly he hath done Wherein he shal be ever bound to pray &c
