The petition of Christopher Barsey, Nottinghamshire, 12 August 1646

To the hon[oura]ble Com[m]ittee of Parliam[en]t for ye County of Nott[ingham]
The humble petic[ion] of Christopher Barsey a lamed souldier now vnd[e]r the Com[m]and of Maior Widmerpole.
Sheweth
Whereas yo[u]r peti[tioner] hath beene a souldier & a faithfull servant to this garrison for a long season, and hath now a sore wound in this service w[hi]ch hath caused his lamenesse so that his is not able to worke this harvest as other sound souldiers, any yo[u]r petic[ioner] rec[eived] noe pay for the pr[e]sent, Soe that hee is not able to releiue his familey, and in the time of his long sicknes run soe far into debt w[hi]ch is not yet wholly satisfied, whereby yo[u]r petic[ioner] is not able to subsist, nor to releiue himselfe w[i]th such necessaries as is wantinge
Wherefore yo[u]r petic[ioner] humbly praieth yo[u]r hon[ou]rs to Comiserate yo[u]r petic[tioners] distressed estate, and bee pleased to lend yo[u]r peti[tione]r some money to buy a Cow towards the maintainance of his familey and in this his great necessitie, and to buy some other great necessities w[hi]ch yo[u]r petic[tioner] is in verie great wants of, and w[i]thout w[hi]ch hee cannot subsist, and yo[u]r peti[tione]r shall dayly praye &c:

Mr Hough, Pay three pounds sixe [illegible] shillings and eight pence to [Christ]opher Barley in p[ar]te of his pay and this shall be yo[u]r warrant Given vnd[e]r our hands the Day and yeare abovesaid
