The petition of Charles Dolling of Essendon, Hertfordshire, 1659

To the Right wor[shipfu]ll the Justices on the Hono[ura]ble: Bench at the Sessions of ye peace for the County of Hertford.
The humble petic[i]on of Charles Dollinge of Essenden in ye County of Hertford Labourer
Humbly Sheweth
That yo[u]r petic[i]oner is a very poore and indigent p[er]son and hath greate necessity & hath an aged woeman to his wife & two children to provide for.
That the year 1644 your petic[i]on[e]r was impressed for a Souldier for the service of the Parliam[en]t & served under Capt[ain] Numan Humfry Com[m]and by the space of one yeare & a halfe & was wounded & maimed by the enemyes horse; by w[hi]ch meanes yo[u]r petic[i]oner is unable to provide for himselfe & family.
That Jacobb Pickering of Hertford late a Pentioner & souldier for this County is dead who had a pention of iiij li. xl s. where of is already disposed of & the rest in yo[u]r wor[shi]ps power to graunt.
May it please yo[u]r wor[shi]pps the pr[e]misses Considered to graunt yo[u]r peticon[e]rs some relief out of the said pention or some other way w[hi]ch may seeme best to yo[u]r wor[shi]pps for the subsistence of him his wife & Children.
And your Peticoner shall ever pray &c.
