The petition of Captain William Forde, Lord Hopton’s Regiment of Foot, July 1660

<Capt[ain] in Lord Hoptons Regim[en]t.>

To the Kings most Excellent Majestie

The humble petic[i]on of William Forde

Humbly sheweth

That the Pet[itione]r with his two sonns did serve his late Ma[jes]tie of ever blessed memory from the begining of the warre vntill the End thereof, in which service he lost one sonne, who left Foure small children to the Care of yo[u]r Pet[itione]r.

That by his constantie to just and loyall principles he hath vndergone all manner of persecuc[i]ons from the hands of the late Tyrants by which he is reduced to great Indigence and necessities

Wherefore he doth most humbly pray That yo[u]r sacred Ma[jes]tie will be graciously pleased to give him for a future Subsistence the Searchers place in ye Custome house at Dartmouth.

And he shall euer pray &c
