The petition of Captain Robert Cave, Thomas Blagge’s Regiment of Foot, July 1660

<Petition of Rob[er]t Cave.>
To the Kings most Excellent Ma[jes]tie.
The humble Petition of Robert Cave.
Sheweth.
That yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r is knowne to have alwaies adhered faithfully to yo[u]r Ma[jes]ties Interests from the begining of the late Warr, adventuring his Life and Fortune in your Service, being Captaine of Horse in the Regiment of the Lord Shandois, and vnder that his Com[m]and received a Shott in his left Arme ever since loosing the vse thereof, and afterwards was Captaine of Foot vnder Colonell Blake at Wallingford, and in severall Engagem[en]ts received many Woundes and ever since hath vndergon (for yo[u]r Ma[jes]ties Interests) severall barbarous Vsages and Imprisonem[en]ts by the adverse party and kept Prisoner in the Tower (a eleaven months) by Baxter, being tirannically debarr’d from all comfort, and this vpon the accompt of Doctor Hewetts designe, and in great hazard of his life, and hath ever since in great want:
May it please your Ma[jes]tie (in Considerac[i]on of yo[u]r Pet[itione]rs constant and faithfull Service and adherence to yo[u]r Ma[jes]tie and that yo[u]r Pet[itione]r is strucken in yeares and defective in his Limbes and Body) to grant yo[u]r especiall Warrant that hee may bee admitted and invested in the place of One of the poore Knights of Windsor (there being Vacancies) for his future and better Livelihood and that hee may comfortably expend the small Remainder of his daies (after soe many oppressions) and there
Your Pet[itione]r (as in Duty bound) shall ever pray for yo[u]r Ma[jes]t[y’]s long and happy Raigne &c.
