The petition of Captain Benjamin Poole, Earl of Crawford’s Regiment of Horse, May 1660

To the Kings most Excelent Majestie
The humble Petic[i]on of Capt[ai]n Benjamine Poole [illegible] Marshall Gen[era]ll to his late Maj[es]tie of blessed memory.
Humbly Sheweth
That yo[u]r Pet[itione]rs fidelity & Loyalty to his said Ma[jes]tie left his habitation wife & Children, to serve him in ye late unhappy warrs, Yo[u]r Pet[itione]r in ye yeare 1643 raised a Troop of horse at his own charge in Oxford, vpon which the Parliam[en]t at West[minste]r did imediately sequester yo[u]r Pet[itione]rs Estate, and turned his wife & Children out of doores, yet yo[u]r Pet[itione]r continued faithfull vntill after ye Surrender at Bastoll house and with in one yeare afterwards plunderd againe of all he had, and 2 yeares 5 months imprisonm[en]t besides ye losse of his son Slayne since in yo[u]r Maj[es]ties Service at Worcester Fight.
Yo[u]r Pet[itione]r therefore humbly prayeth yo[u]r most Sacred Ma[jes]tie to take cognizance of ye premisses and be gratiously pleased to signify yo[u]r Ma[jes]ties Will and Pleasure That yo[u]r Pet[itione]r may be Admitted and Sworne one of yo[u]r Maj[es]ties Yeomen of ye Guard in Ordinary.
And yo[u]r Pet[itione]r shall as in duty bound pray for yo[u]r Maj[es]ties long life & happy raygne.
