The petition of Berkenhead Beverley of Huntington, Cheshire, Epiphany 1676

To the Right hono[ura]ble his Ma[jes]ties Cheife Justices and all ye Justices of the peace and Noble gen[tlemen] of the County Pall[atine] of Chester or vnto whom these presents shall Come

The humble peti[ti]on of Berkenhead Beuerley Late of Huntington in the County of Chester gen[tleman]

Sheweth

That yo[u]r peti[tione]r hath bin and was a true subiect and faithfull soulder in his Late Ma[jes]ties seruice of euer blessed memorie as by Certificate vnder the hand and seale of S[i]r Thomas Aston Baronet and Col[one]l for his s[ai]d Late Ma[jes]tie of A Regement of horse and yo[u]r peti[ti]o[ne]r was gen[tleman] of the s[ai]d Regement as by the s[ai]d Certificate dated the 20th of March 1642 will Appeare and of his true seruice done at Edgehill and other places in this kingdome to the Continuall Hazard of his Life but to the Certaine ouerthrow of his estate w[hi]ch is not vnknowne to seuerall gen[tleman] Justices of the peace and others of this County and elswhere

That yo[u]r peti[tione]r still Continueing his Loyaltie and Aleagance to his Royall soueraigne Lord the king that now is being Resolued to venture Life and fortunes therein did Ingage him selfe vnder the Comand of Col[one]l Peeres Leigh at Northw[i]ch in ye s[ai]d County w[i]th S[i]r George Booth Now Lord Dalemoore in the Month of August 1659 then Indeuoring of ye most happy restoracion of o[u]r s[ai]d Soueraigne Lord the king and the Libertie of the people wherein yo[u]r peti[tio]n[e]r valiently behaued him self and there Receaued Tenn or twelue most desperate wounds on seuerall p[ar]tes of his body some whereof haue utterly Maimed yo[u]r peti[ti]o[ne]r of his hands and Lims and others yet vncured as may Appeare to his great Lose and exessiue Charge of Chyrurgons and others besides of all w[hi]ch yo[u]r peti[ti]o[ne]rs s[ai]d Loyaltie wounds and sufferings as afores[ai]d by A Certificate of Many Noble gen[tlemen] Justices of the peace of his and other Countyes will Apeare soe yt notw[i]thstanding the Lose of his estate and other the sufferings afores[ai]d yet is Indamaged and Indebted vnto the s[ai]d Chyrourgons and other Ingagements vpon the acount afores[ai]d aboue 40 li. and being not able to pay the same is Incouraged to begg the bountifull Contribuc[i]on and Charitie of such the Nobillitie and gen[tlemen] afores[ai]d otherwise [illegible] yo[u]r pet[itio]n[e]r his wife and Children are Like to sustaine great want and Misserie exept therein speedyly by such the Nobillitie and gen[tlemen] afores[ai]d according to yo[u]r wonted goodnes and Clemency

May it therefore please y[ou]r hono[u]rs and others the Nobillitie and gen[tlemen] afores[ai]d the premiss[e]s tenderly considered to extend yo[u]r Charitable Contribucion for and towards yo[u]r pet[itio]n[e]rs releife and payment of the moneys afores[ai]d or otherwise as vnto yo[u]r Noble Judgement and wisdome shall seeme meet

And yo[u]r peti[ti]o[ne]r will euer pray &c

Wee whose names are subscribed doe know and beeleeue ye Contence of this petic[i]on to bee true and desire all p[er]sons vnto whom this presents shall come to Continuance and Assists the pet[itione]r in his request
