The petition of Bartholomewe Venn of Honiton, Devon, October 1660

To the Right Wor[shi]p[fu]ll the Justices of the Peace at the generall Sessions holden at the Castle of Exon for the County of Deuon

The humble petition of Bartholomewe Venn of Honyton in the said County of Deuon,

Humbly sheweth vnto yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps that the said Bartholomew Venn was a souldier in the North about 20 yeares since in the service of our late Soueraigne Lord King Charles the first of blessed memory, And in the same seruice lost one of his sights, as by testimony thereof appeareth, By meanes whereof the said Bartholomewe hath suffered and vndergon much hardshipp, And now is in noe way able to gett his livelyhoode, And haueing an old woman to his wife, of Threescore Yeares and ten of age, or there abouts, and not any way able to gett her mayntenance, but hath had some reliefe of the Parish Soe that nowe the said Bartholomewe and his wife are and haue beene in much want and povertie, And yo[u]r poore petitioner most humbly craveth yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps favour to be bestowed towards them and to grant some reliefe towards their necessities, And yo[u]r poore petition[e]r shall be euer bound to pray &c

Wee whose names are subscribed Inhabitants of the Towne of Honyton doe beleeve that the case of Bartholomewe Venn, as is aboue sett forth is true, And we recommend him as a p[er]son fitt to be relieved.
