The petition of Bartholomew Stertavant of Holne, Devon, 1683

To the Worrshippfull John Bare Esquire Judge of his Ma[jes]ties Court held att the Castle of Exon for the County of Deuon and the rest of the Worr[shipfu]ll Justices of the same Court:
The humble petic[i]on of Bartholomew Stertavant of the parish of Hole in the said County:
<Sheweth>
That yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r for many yeares since was wounded against plymouth vnder the Comaund of S[i]r John Acklands, and since that was wounded againe by a splinter in one of his Ma[jes]ties men of warr, vnder the Comaund of Captaine Berry Comaunder the Resoluc[i]on, and now yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r growes antiant and not able to worke and provide for himselfe and family as formerly hee hath done, by reason of his said woundes
Therefore yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]r most humbly prayeth yo[u]r Worr[shi]pps wil bee pleased to grant him his Ma[jes]ties allowance in that Case provided without which yo[u]r said poore petic[i]on[e]r is noe way able to maintaine himselfe and family
And yo[u]r pet[icione]r as bound in duety shall ever pray &c.
