The petition of Anthoney Baker of Salisbury, Wiltshire, Trinity 1655

To the right Wo[rshi]pfull the Justices of the Peace of the County of Wilts[hire] nowe sittinge att Warminster.
The humble petic[i]on of Anthoney Baker of the Citty of Newe Sarum Clothworker.
Humbly Sheweth
That yo[u]r petic[i]oner hath ben seu[er]all yeares in the p[ar]li[a]m[en]t service vnder the Com[m]and of Maior Ludlowe & Captaine Brodribbe as may appeare by a Certificate vnder the hand of the sayd Mai[o]r Ludlowe Col[one]l Dore & Mr Hely & that yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] at the late insurrecc[i]on att at [sic] Sarum listed himselfe vnder the com[m]ande of Col[one]l Dore for the suppr[e]ssinge thereof but by the alwise p[ro]vidence of god fell of his horse & broake his legge to the ympou[er]ishinge of yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] he beinge a poore man & haveinge a wife & children, And that vpon the recom[m]endac[i]on of yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] by the Lord gen[er]all Desbrough vnto this Court by a certificate vnder vnder his hand, yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] hath ben allowed 4 li. towards his pr[e]sent necessity, but he haveinge lyed a longe time vnder the Chirurgeons hands at greate charge & expenc[e]s & haveinge lost the vse of his legge as form[er]ly he enioyed it
doth humbly desire yo[u]r Wo[rshi]ps to consider of his condic[i]on & the charges he hath ben at by reason of the sayd wound & to allowe him some yearely penc[i]on forth of the Treasury of this county for the maintenance of himselfe & family, he beinge by reason of the sayd wound in some measure disabled to doe the same
