The petition of Anne Pomeroy of Plymouth, Devon, 1665

To the R[ig]ht Wor[shi]pp[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace for the County of Deuon,
The humble petic[i]on of Anne Pomeroy Widdowe
Most humbly sheweth
That yo[u]r poore pet[itione]rs husband William Pomeroy of Plymouth deceased was all his lifetyme a loyall and faithfull subiect to the Kings Ma[jes]tie, and duringe the late vnhappy Warrs, was in actuall seruice for his late murthered and martered Ma[jes]tie and then a Captaine of Horse and receaued many wounds in that seruice (and of late a Captaine of his Ma[jes]ties Frigott the Dolphin – and in that seruice hee dyed, leaueinge yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r his wife, and seuerall smale Children to Christian Charity) By reason whereof hee was plundered, and lost all his estate, and soe vndone for his loyalty, all which by a Certificate herevnto annexed, appeareth.
In Tender Considerac[i]on whereof and forasmuch as yo[u]r pet[itione]rs husband was euer loyall and in actuall seruice for his Ma[jes]tie and lost all his estate by reason thereof and noe remedy att the Comon Lawe by reason of his Ma[jes]t[ie]s most Gracious Act of obliuion forbidinge the Contrary,) and noe Way or meanes but by yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps clemency and goodnesse in such Cases vsed and extended in that behalfe.
Doth humbly pray that yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps would bee pleased most fauorably to looke vppon yo[u]r poore pet[itione]rs sad Condic[i]on and to graunt her a reasonable pension out of the County Stocke accordinge to his Ma[jes]t[ie]s Acte, in such Cases made and provided.
And yo[u]r pet[itione]r shall eu[er] pray for yo[u]r wor[shi]ps health and happines &c
