The petition of Anne Platt, City of London, 15 May 1672

<Ann Platt widdow admitted at L s. p[er] Ann[um] first 1/4 at Midsom[me]r 1672.>
To the R[igh]t Hono[ura]ble S[i]r George Waterman Knight Lord Mayor of the Citty of London.
The most humble Petic[i]on of Anne Platt Widdow
Sheweth
That yo[u]r Pet[itione]r is the Widdow of Capt[ain] Richard Platt who was slaine in his late ma[jes]t[y]s service at Newbery in ye head of a Troop of his owne raising, for ye doeing of which he sold your pet[itione]rs Jewells and all his p[er]sonall estate which would now haue bin a subsistence to her promising her to settle an estate of 600 li. a yeare vpon her (which hee was heire to,) when things were composed but being pr[e]vented of making that settlem[en]t by his said untimely death, your pet[itione]r has bin ever since exposed to great hardships for a living, & being now aged is like to fall under ye hard choyce of begging or sterving.
May it thereafore please your Lord[shi]p for ye pr[e]venting of that Calamity to admit her to ye charity of this most noble Citty now in your Lord[shi]ps dispensac[i]on to p[er]sons of her quality & sufferings.
And shee shall ever pray &c.

I having seen seu[er]all certificates of whereby I am very well satisfied of ye truth of ye petic[i]oners case And doe therefore thinck she she ought to be entred into ye List of those widdowes yt recieve penc[i]ons quart[e]rly in like cases, And therefore omitt not to I pray let her be entred into ye same list paying her a penc[i]on as soon as possible.
