The petition of Anne Pember of Hereford, Herefordshire, October 1672

To the worshippfull the Mayor & the rest of his Maiesties Justices of the peace for the Citty of Hereford
The humble petition of Anne Pember widdow
Humbly sheweth
That y[ou]r pet[itione]r Marryed with one Thomas Pember who was borne in this Citty & Apprentice to the trade of a Bucher & serued his Master faythfully & sett vp his trade bein a freeman of this Citty & instrumentall in defending it against the Scotts army & was plundered of all hee hadd by the Rebellious p[ar]tie when they tooke this Cittie to his vtter vndoeing & his wife y[ou]r poore pet[itione]r & Children & afterwards was a Souldier in Cheapstow Castle & instrumentall in bringing in of his Maiestie & died since leueing behind him 9 smale Children whom y[ou]r poore p[etitione]r hath to the vttermost of her endeauour brought vp by her hard labour Except one small boy who is fitt to goe Apprentice but y[ou]r pet[itione]r is not of abillitie to place him to as Master without y[ou]r good worshipps Assisstance &c.
These pr[e]mises Considered may it please y[ou]r worshipps to grant to y[ou]r poore pett[itione]r some p[ar]te of that monye left by Mr Harper for the placing of Apprentices whereby the boy may be brought vp in some honest lawfull trade in this Citty.
& y[ou]r pet[itione]r with her Chilldren shall euer pray &c
